Universal White Cement Company® was established in 1995 with one product, Universal Blended White Cement™. Developed specifically for the swimming pool industry, our patented pozzolan blended cement offered the pool plasterers greater durability, workability and increased cement strength. With the success of Universal Blended White Cement, Universal has researched and developed other high performance products and admixtures for the pool market and white cement pre-cast and construction industry. Universal White Cement Company has always strived to use the best materials available in developing and producing all of our products. In 1996, Universal White Cement Company contracted Penn State University to research the effects of our pozzolan blends on cementitious materials. An excerpt from the assessment report is following:
"A pozzolan is defined as a 'siliceous or siliceous and aluminous material which in itself possesses little or no cementing property but will, in a finely divided form and in the presence of moisture, chemically react with calcium hydroxide at ordinary temperatures to form compounds possessing cementitious properties'. Countless laboratory studies and construction projects have documented the benefits generated by partial replacement of cement with a pozzolan or finely divided mineral. When used in correct proportions, a pozzolan will enhance the compressive strength of the hardened concrete material and will inhibit several types of chemical attack. These types of chemical attack include sulfate resistance, alkali-silica reaction, delayed ettringite formation, and chloride ion ingress."
